“Everything I see now is purple green. Like the trees we passed by, like the building over there, like that little star, like you, like the earth. It’s the colours of life.” — she said to me.

Once upon a time, further prior to the Great Oxidation when single-celled creatures breathed the earth into its present green, the planet used to vibrate within violet glows. According to the Purple Earth Hypothesis proposed by the Indian-American molecular biologist Shiladitya DasSarma, early Earth was tinted by the retinal-based photosynthetic critters, dwelling in the ancient, yet young purple seas that formed the liquid skin of our nascent planet.

How did it sound like? I wonder? Purple green, the colours of lives, far before the birth of all genres of music and sound one could imagine, before the possible sounds that form Jon Hassell’s Fourth World — were there bubbles? Were there shapes? Were there poetries? Was there an unquenchable drive for the stars?

Purple Green was born from these inquires, only that in its speculative realm, there is no such thing as “past, present, future” —every color coalesces into the frequencies that flow into your inner ears. It is a monthly radio show explores the stories that one might experience this planet. It evolves with the seasons, with the tides, with you-me on earth.
